Presidential Obama v. Angry White Man

He sure proved the point that John McCain has nothing on him on foreign policy. And McCain was just scary—imagine him and his anger trying to repair our place in the world.

And McCain's anger and condescension toward Obama was shocking. I couldn't help wonder if he would have acted the same—and refused to look at—a white opponent. It was incredibly offensive. He was the quintessential angry white man tonight who seems offended to be challenged by an upstart.

Josh Marshall is blogging about McCain's anger and sneers, too:

I said above that McCain didn't have any freak-out moments. But he did have that sneer and there did seem to be this thing where he was so contemptuous and angry at Obama that he couldn't get himself to make eye contact. I think we'll hear more about that.

Angry, angry, angry. Part of the key here is that McCain is clearly miffed that he even has to debate or run again Obama. He thinks it's an insult.

McCain-Palin are nothing if not sneering.

It was also remarkable listening to McCain talk about earmarks—of the very type his running mate piled up.

BTW, where does McCain get off saying that our soldiers who die in a war that was ill-advised did not die with honor—that they died with honor if we WIN the war. I'm so glad Obama went back on him on that. For families who have lost people in Iraq, it's plain offensive to say that.

And what about McCain getting angry and saying "Horsehit!" not once but twice. Video at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/26909249#26909711 Around the 4:30 mark...if Obama had said that, it would already be all over the mainstream media!

What was McCain's point in saying that the South Koreans are three inches shorter than the North Koreans? What's up with that? Eerie, I say, eerie.

Agreed, Laurel. I don't think he said "horse shit," either. Hope not.

Daaanng. He did say it... twice. I think he didn't realize the microphone was picking it up. McCain is known for having a short fuse. So it shouldn't surprise me, but it does.

I can see thinking he said "course" not "horse" because the sounds are similar, but I don't hear an "o-t" sound at ALL. I believe there is definitely a short "i" sound in the second word. Maybe he said "horse spit", some sort of old white dude euphemism that I have never heard before due to my limiting dealings with such individuals!

Doubting myself a wee bit, I went back and looked and listened again. At the time in question, Obama is stating that Senator McCain was quoted as stating he might not meet with one of our NATO allies, Spain. For McCain to say, "Course not" would be rather absurd (maybe he did say it). I'm not 100% sure of exactly what he said, but to say "course not" that he would "of course not" meet with the Prime minister of Spain if he were president does not make any sense. His lips do not seem to form the words "course not". I also say "Of course not! Screw Spain. They should learn to speak English! And stay off our grass!"

I listened again and I recant. It DOES sound like "course not". That is weird in that context. It doesn't make much sense.

I also say "Of course not! Screw Spain. They should learn to speak English! And stay off our grass!" Them and the Dutch with their wooden shoes. LOL
