Jackson Realtor Marty Clapton plans to bring his new bar and grill, Barrelhouse, to the bustling Fondren district by December of this year. The restaurant, located at 3009 N. State St., will fill the 5,000-square-foot space that once housed The Antique Market on the historic Fondren Strip, next door to Campbell's Bakery.

Clapton says the restaurant's menu will feature burgers, chicken wings, po-boys, barbecue shrimp, grilled cheese and Mississippi tomato sandwiches, along with draft beers, wine, and bourbon and whiskey-based cocktails.

Barrelhouse will also have a covered outdoor patio, a central performance area for music performances on weekends and a bar made from reclaimed Mississippi Delta cypress wood.

Watch Barrelhouse's new website and find it on Facebook for updates.

Half Shell Opening in Flowood

Half Shell Oyster House (15 Laurel Park Cove, Suite 105, Flowood), a seafood restaurant with locations in Gulfport, Biloxi and Hattiesburg, opened its fourth location in Flowood on Sept. 8. The 180-seat, New Orleans-inspired restaurant serves hand-shucked oysters raw, charbroiled, baked or broiled or on the half shell with a special blend of herbs and mushrooms or a spicy New Orleans-style buttery barbecue sauce to go with them.

The menu also includes redfish, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, burgers, po-boys, sandwiches, steak, chicken, pasta and salads, as well as traditional New Orleans dishes such as gumbo, shrimp and grits, and royal red shrimp. Half Shell also offers a variety of monthly specials. This month's specials include Orleans 13, which is fresh blue-crab claws sauteed in a smoky Cajun sauce, and Esplanade 21, which is a bronzed red snapper over a jalapeno-lime hollandaise.

A second metro area location is in the works for the Grandview East Shopping Center on Grandview Boulevard in Madison. The Gulf Coast Restaurant Group, which owns Half Shell, plans to open the Madison location during the first quarter of 2016.

Half Shell is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, call 769-257-7586.
