Dr. S here with the results of this week's state college football scores, plus (what you reallly want to read) how I did on forecasting the games' results. I was 3-0 on picking winners and near-perfect on picking the scores. But remember, these picks are for entertainment purposes only ...
LSU 31, Mississippi State 13: My pick was LSU 31, MSU 14. I gave the Dogs' offense too much credit.
Southern Miss 27, Army 6: My pick was USM 42, Army 7. No, the Eagles aren't patriots who wanted to take it easy on the Cadets. The real problem was running back Derrick Nix saw limited action because he was having trouble keeping his lunch down.
Jackson State 36, Mississippi Valley State 12: My pick was JSU 70, Valley 21. The Delta Devils played the Tigers much tougher than expected. Look for better days ahead for Valley under first-year coach Willie Totten. Still, all smack talk aside, the Tigers took care of business. But watch out for Alcorn State. The Braves whipped Alabama State 48-37. If both teams win the rest of their SWAC games (and they should), then the JSU-Alcorn game at Memorial Stadium on Nov. 23 will decide who represents the SWAC East in the conference championship game.
Other results: West Alabama 30, Delta State 24; Lambuth 30, Belhaven 18; Millsaps 56, South Alabama 12; Mississippi College 34, Sul Ross State 21; and (a juco shocker) Pearl River CC 31, Hinds 22.
