The popular Acoustic Blues Guitar and Blues Appreciation courses, taught by Delta blues musician and author Steve Cheseborough, are being offered again at Delta State University, Cleveland; and Greenville Higher Education Center.
The Acoustic Blues Guitar class will focus on the styles of Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, Memphis Minnie, and other great blues guitarists of the 1920s and '30s. Students should have some experience on the guitar and an interest in the blues. Bring an acoustic guitar, a notebook and a tape recorder. The class will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays Sept. 13 through Oct. 18 at Delta State University, Cleveland; and 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 21 through Oct. 12 at Greenville Higher Education Center.
The students in the Blues Appreciation course will have fun and learn about the blues through recordings, readings, pictures, discussions, and live performances. This course will help you understand and appreciate America's great gift to the world, the blues -- its origin, how it differs from other kinds of music, and where to find it. No musical background is required. The class will meet from 7:15 to 8:45 Mondays Sept. 13 through Oct. 18 at Delta State University, Cleveland; and 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 21 through Oct. 12 at Greenville Higher Education Center.
