This is an important story. The Clarion-Ledger is reporting that JSU expansion plans are threatening historical small businesses and residences around the campus.

Eric Stringfellow writes today on this issue: "The parkway eliminated an entire area of shotgun houses and abandoned structures. JSU's expansion could do the same thing. The reality is that parts of this area are on life support. Everyone will be better served if the plug is pulled and the area is reincarnated as something else. But the process must have dignity." http://www.clarionledger.com/news/0401/20/meric.html Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like the concern about what the parkway is going to do to the neighborhood is coming a little late in the process -- although better then than not at all. I need to go look at the news archives on this one. Meantime, anyone out there have some historical perspective to add on this topic?
