CelticFest Mississippi 2004, Celtic Heritage Society's 13th annual weekend of music, dance, and fun is almost here! CelticFest is a celebration of the Celtic nations including Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany and will take place on September 10-12 at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum. CelticFest features an exceptional variety of exciting Irish and Scottish music and dance on 5 stages, plus Celtic heritage, music and dance workshops, a children's area, Celtic specialty vendors, and plenty of food and drink. Because much of the festival takes place indoors, CelticFest will be held RAIN OR SHINE!
CelticFest annually features two headlining solo or group of performing artists, of both international status and high caliber. Headliners are chosen to represent the "two" sides of Celtic music: song, and dance music. In past years, CelticFest has hosted acclaimed artists including Paddy Keenan, Robbie O'Connell, Liz Carroll, Daithí Sproule, Billy McComiskey, Zan Mcleod, Tim Britton, James Kelly, Mick Moloney, Seamus Egan, Eileen Ivers, Ed Miller, Kieran O'Hare, Brendan Nolan, Cherish the Ladies, the Armagh Rhymers, and Chulrua. The Celtic Heritage Society will announce feature headliners for 2004 in July. Of course, CelticFest's tried-and-true local and regional performers will return for another round as well!
The festivities begin Friday night at 7pm to midnight with music/dance performances and an open tune session. On Saturday, the gates open at 10 am with entertainment and activities continuously until midnight (or later!). The children won't be left out— CelticFest is a family-friendly festival! There will be a Children's Area and kid-oriented vendors on the grounds. Highlights of Saturday evening include a massive Irish Céilí Dance (pronounced 'kay-lee'--no dancing experience required) and an open singing session. The gates open again 11 am Sunday for another day of Celtic fun.
