The Online Journalism Review (a publication of the University of Southern California) posted an article today featuring the JFP blog as an example of what alts around the country can do to use their Web sites to build community. After he discusses the JFP's Web efforts, columnist Mark Glaser writes: "That's the type of online synergy that has ignited many progressive activists, but has been largely missing from the alt-weekly world of late. But perhaps it's not too late for them to learn from the innovators among them, start to monetize their local content, and become a true alternative to the mainstream online."
Thanks, Mark, for recognizing our scrappy efforts here in Jackson, Miss.!

By the way, if any of you are interested in setting up your own blog, Todd's book Blog On! Building Online Communities With Web Logs (McGraw-Hill/Osborne, 2002) is a great place to start. Click here to go straight to the book's Web site. And there's a great review of the book over at Barnes & Noble's Web site, where Bill Camarda writes in his review: "Like intranets, instant messaging, and P2P before them, blogs may be the next area of tech to move from fun to business. In the bookís final chapter, Stauffer gets you thinking about all the ways to use a blog in your company or nonprofit. There are some powerful, maybe even brilliant ideas here." Personally, I'd say definitely "brilliant," but I'm biased. ;-)
