[verbatim] April 1, 2005—Democratic mayoral candidate Frank Melton responds to the selection of debate negotiators from Harvey Johnson: "First let me say that I am really looking forward to these debates. While we certainly respect the representatives Harvey Johnson has chosen, it is yet another glaring example of his overplanning to underexecute and just another excuse to procrastinate."
"I will be glad to meet personally with Harvey Johnson to work out the details man to man so that there is not hiding behind surrogates and no miscommunication. I welcome that opportunity as it will be a good time for the both of us to get together and reaffirm both campaigns' commitment to run a clean and above board campaign."

How do you make a "rolls my eyes" in shock! I love Melton's machismo! It's so adult and calculated - he must be an excellent planner at heart! Last I checked the Mayor still has a job to do, and appointing a few people to go and figure out how to line up the debate format is as old as debates. This is clearly a campaign being run on reactionary decisions instead of laying the foundation to actually lead the debate of issues between the two candidates. And, when did the campaign become "dirty?" I don't think either one of them has to "reaffirm' anything. For the Mayor: Get the facts out to the people. You have made progress regardless of what the naysayers are claiming. For Melton: Give us a plan that is workable, and that actually has a logic that works within the political stucture of our government.
