JACKSON, Miss. -- Two Democratic candidates in the race for mayor shared a podium this weekend, but not without some tough criticism.
While Mayor Harvey Johnson and Anell Vaughn-Smith appeared at the Democratic Club forum, Frank Melton said he had a prior commitment.
"This is the Mississippi Democratic Club forum," Johnson said. "I'm a Democrat. I'm here. I think anyone who's a true Democrat who's interested in Democratic values and who seeks the nomination of the party ought to be here."
Melton instead attended a community event with students at Candlestick Park. He said the appearance was part of a prior commitment.
