The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra 2004-2005 Intimate Classics Chamber Series concludes this Sunday, April 17, with "Afternoon Spring Musicale." Beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, the musical selections on the program have all been chosen by the musicians who will play them. Highlights of the program include:
Gabriel Faure's Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major, Opus 13, performed by MSO Principal Violin II Xie Song and Belhaven College's Dr. Stephen Sachs.
Two compositions by MSO Director of Education Dr. Mark Francis, featuring MSO musicians Cheri Waite, Hristo Hristov, MSO Concertmistress Marta Szlubowska-Kirk, and Dr. Francis.
J.S. Bach's Concerto in d minor for two violins and piano, played by Vince Massimino, Szlubowska-Kirk, and her mother, Danuta Szlubowska.
The Szlubowska mother-daughter duo will also play Pablo de Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs), Opus 20.
The program will conclude with music from the MSO Brass Quintet.
