Bertha Mack lives a block from where Jackson Police officer Thomas Catchings was shot and killed last month while trying to stop a carjacker.
Cars zip down Sanford Street in the west Jackson neighborhood at highway speeds, trash lines the curbs and the houses that aren't boarded up and abandoned wear burglar bars. A bare metal pole stands lonely at each end of the street, missing green nameplate signs.
