Campaign contirbutions for Jackson mayoral candidates are reaching the $1 million mark.
But Harvey Johnson and Frank Melton are looking forward to raising even more money before primary elections on Tuesday.
Melton topped Johnson's total by $10,000, but both candidates are closing in on the half million dollar mark. Each campaign has big-money supporters.
Melton received $10,000 each from businessman James Barksdale, homemaker Suzannah McGowan-Baroni, and Stribling Equipment Board Chair Sherry Stribling Greener. The biggest donor is Melton himself, at $80,000.
"He's a man that puts his money where his mouth is, that he was willing to invest in himself," said Carolyn Redd, Melton's campaign coordinator.
