The Clarion-Ledger reports:
Police Chief Robert Moore flew to Chicago on Friday to share with a law enforcement group how his leadership has brought about a 24-percent drop in Jackson's crime statistics.
Upon his return today, though, crime in the state's capital city still will be the top concern among Jackson residents. Mayoral incumbent Harvey Johnson Jr. and challengers Frank Melton and Annell Smith repeatedly have been asked about their stance on crime in the run-up to Tuesday's Democratic primary election.
"I just don't understand that," said Moore, frustrated that crime remains an issue. "Myself and Harvey Johnson have brought the police department to a level it has never been at before. We just don't get credit for it."
Moore has heard the talk: Some crimes are not included in his department's weekly statistics; Melton, if elected, would fire him; and he's a liability to Johnson's campaign.

A WJTV reporter asked Chief Moore how he felt about the election results. He said that his contract ends on June 30 and he will retire after that, so Melton won't have a chance to fire him. Eric Stringfellow was at the newsroom, and he said that it would be best if Moore just stepped aside since he is a lame duck. Anyone else see this?

Just the enthusiastic and well made statements by Chief Moore. Don't know much about Stringfellow being on TV? Nevertheless, just what you expect from the people around the Mayor. Even in the face of adversity, they find the positive and take the high road. It was a good moment for the Mayor and the Chief and they handled themselves with class!

What, may I ask, would be the point of staying solely so that you can be fired? Melton has promised he would do that, and I don't see the Chief gaining anything by such a move.

No, he is smarter then that, and I'm sure his contract timed out just for this sceneo. June 30th he's out and Melton is in July 1. I thought it was good he reminded people he's done a good job and that he wants to help with any transisition into the new leadership until his last day. What's so wrong with a public office wanting to do a good job until the end? You must of missed my earlier post! It's all about class, and they showed it tonight at the Harvey Johnson campaign. I wish them all well and you too!

Stringfellow was on Newschannel 12 wearing one of those huge, striped bowties. He is on there often during a night of voting to give his commentary on election results. They'll probably have him back in June. BTW, I went to school with someone named Erica Stringfellow. I wonder if he's her dad, because she sure looks like him...

Chief Moore should have been fired. The man does not know what he is doing. Chief Moore can't run the Jackson police department. For Starters, the police communication radio system. Did you know, Jackson Pd can't communicate with Clinton PD. Clinton Pd will get into a chase and it will end up in mid town Jackson, and the Jackson police will never know about it.

Glass is is half filled... Glass is half-empty... Isn't Jackson that can't communicate with Clinton or Clinton that can't communicate with Jackson? Or would you rather place the weight of the situation on both municipalities since they are neighbors and share in policing borders?

This story is relevant to your post, cool (which you'll note that I edited because part of it violated the User Agreement; you're new here, I understand, but please stay away from personal insults and unsubstantiated innuendo. I will delete them no matter who you're talking about). Also, it seems that the Moore part is irrelevant now. It does make me wonder what exactly Moore did to make Melton turn on. As you can see in my profile, Melton loved the chief when he first came, but then made an about-face. But the point now, of course, is who is this woman Melton wants to appoint? And what's she all about? And what kind of chief would Whitlow bring in? (There's a new Truthwatch thread on this, BTW.)

I just received an email that reminded me that even though no crime is acceptable, sometimes we forget how good we have it compared to other locations: ________________________________________ Hi girl, I wanted to know if you could forward this message to everyone. I am not sure how many people on the praise team live in Los Angeles, CA or may have friends or loved ones that reside in Los Angeles, CA. But the buzz around here is that the Mexican mafia put a hit out on the blacks and that 1000 black young men have to die within 10 weeks, because of drug money/drug deal gone bad. When I first heard this I was devistated! It is bad enough that our race is killing each other because of gang violence and the drugs in the community. But now this!!! I am asking that you all pray and fast with me on this. There has been 6 fatal shootings since this hit went into effect. These shootings have all been on the 110, 91, 10, and 405 freeways. A friend of mines told me he was trying to cross the street in front of his house to go to the store and a car with 4 clean shaved bald head men tried to run them over. By the grace of God, the car missed them. So the guys drove off laying and shooting racial comments. I understand that there has been a meeting held in the Crenshaw district and that they are going to enforce a 10:00 PM curfew. It has not gone into effect yet, but there is talk and planning of this. This saddens me because I think about little boys, and our teenagers who walk home from school who are now targets of senseless crimes. A crime the innocent is not aware of. So brothers and sisters lets pray and fast that this will cease and desist. I am tired of seeing so many innocent people dying behind senseless crimes. This is so heavy on my heart and I worry about all our brothers and little brothers. I am constantly praying on their safety and that this hit/war ends. So I ask you all to join with me and pray and fast. Now, I can not commit to a full days fast due to medical reasons. But I can do up to a 12 o'clock (noon) fast. Please join me. I feel that if enough of us join together we can defeat the enemy. This is nothing but the devil at work!
