JACKSON, Miss. -- When it comes to money, the Jackson mayoral race is shaping up to be a David and Goliath story.
Republican Rick Whitlow has a little more than $16,000 in his war chest, while Democrat Frank Melton has $617,000.
But the money underdog says don't count him out.
"We're putting up signs everywhere and going hand-to-hand doing that political grudge work," Whitlow said.
Whitlow said winning the race is not about the money.
"I knew that I wasn't going to outspend my opponent by any stretch of the imagination, but one thing I can do is make sure I don't get outworked," Whitlow said.
