As most of you cowpokes have figured out by now, the JFP's site underwent technical problems this week with our service provider. Understanding exactly what happened is above my pay grade, but Todd tells me it has a whole lot to do with having too much traffic, which overloaded our previous system. That seems a blessing in disguise, even if it didn't feel like it this week. As you can see, the site has been transferred over and is up and running again. However, there are still some glitches.
(The Recent Comments seems to have gotten a migraine just since I looked at the site last night, for instance.) But the JFP tech gods are working diligently to get all the kinks out of the new system and have the site right back where it was. Meantime, I believe you can post again—so have at it. And, I must say, this little episode did reveal exactly who the most addicted JFP folks are ... your secret is safe with us. ;-D

Between switching servers, PHP version differences, data corruption, and a backend upgrade, A LOT happened.

Personally, I believe it's because Mercury is in retrograde. I'm not a bit astrology buff -- but I believe in the retrograde thing. I said a week and a half ago after seeing something about it on my Excite page: "Uh, oh. Everything's going to break." It did. ;-)

Giggle. I like this part of that report. Since taking office in 2001, Thaksin has shown hostility toward the media, and his critics accuse him of trying to restrict press freedoms by manipulating coverage, canceling TV and radio shows, and through media takeovers by his political and business allies. Thaksin recently has come under heavy criticism by publisher Sondhi Limthongkul, who accuses the premier and the government of trying to muzzle a free press. Maybe Mr. Melton is an astrology watcher as well. ;-)

I would say all my wit and wisdom was lost, but that's too debateable. :) Here's to stability. Good old boring stability!

I know. I didn't realize how perfect that news snippet was until I read the sentence "trying to muzzle a free press".... That's a good line.
