It's good to see the quality of commentary that the Ledge attracts in their forums:
Good to see that the Ledge doesn't mind being used as a tool to promote disgusting racism.
(Tell me, all, if they now take this down, after a week of being there. I made a PDF of it, and can link to it if need be.)

One wonders if anyone is monitoring, or moderating, those forums. Good Lord.

No, it's just a pitiful piece of racist crap that The Clarion-Ledger is perfectly comfortable leaving on their Web site for a full week at least that proves to all of us how far we still have to go on this journey to overcome racism. Also the photo down below of the black man's head Photoshopped onto an ape's head is pretty "funny," too. Looks like that one originated locally. Reminds me of the award-winning Northside Sun column that said blacks should give thanks every day for slavery. So, what's wrong with that, huh? Pitiful, Ledge.

Yeah, this is not the first time I've wondered if anyone is really moderating the C-L forums. It all reminds me of some of those "ghost town" BBS's that you would sometimes see in the mid 1990s, where the administrators had pretty much forgotten they ran the things, and the forums all filled up with crap. I'm surprised the place isn't full of spam and pornography by now. Cheers, TH

Okay, I don't like being angry this early in the morning... I can't believe the man used the word "coon" and no one did anything about it! And he wanted to keep bringing up his college education! I don't care if the man had a doctorate...ignorance and stupidity are two different things.

*nod* I'd say that he's both ignorant and stupid; after all, even Bush has a BA/history from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. What does this guy have? A bachelor's in electrical engineering technology--it isn't even a full-fledged BSEE (which is much harder to get). And yeah, the racial epithets on that board bug me a lot. I think they should shut the damned thing down if they're not going to moderate it. Cheers, TH

Glad to see the black-man-as-ape images still on the Ledge's forum this morning. No surprise, though, they've been up there for a week. Why dump them now?

I got on there today...that thread is actually one of the longest ones on the board. Doesn't look like the board gets a lot of visitors....and the ones they have are doozies.

Yep, for the most part, the Ledge forums attract the Worst of the New South.

That forum is completely worthless. I can only hope that people read that thing as much as they post on it....very, very little. There's one thread where an out-of-towner was asking questions about Jackson b/c it was a possible relocation site for her. She was answered with by a bunch of babble about crime, low-paying jobs and pretty much any stereotype about Jackson you can dream up. I only hope that the person realized what a waste of time/effort that board is. My blood pressure rises just thinking about that board. It got pretty awful during the mayoral election. There were only about a handful of posters that gave Mayor Johnson any credit whatsover for doing anything during his reign. The rest would clammer on and on about how worthless he is and how Jackson is a lost cause without Melton.... "Worst of the New South" is basically right on... That's why I'm so thankful that apparently only about 5 people even read/post on the damn thing.

We're learning an awful lot, in this process (or lack thereof), about how the C-L's administration feels about racism in the South. Guess that's why they aren't pushing ahead on the Dee/Moore slayings or other unsolved civil rights cases.
