JPD Charges Two in City's 9th Homicide in 2006

The Clarion-Ledger is reporting that police have arrested Yolanda Barnes, 22, and her boyfriend Joisha Robinson, 27, in the Wednesday morning murder of Carlos Littleton at 162 Marion Street:

A preliminary investigation showed both Littleton and Barnes were at the Marion Street house playing cards with several other people when a verbal altercation occurred between them, Wade said. Barnes left the house to get Robinson. They both returned and Barnes began to verbally assault Littleton, Wade said. Littleton attempted to walk away, he said.

Subsequently, Robinson pulled out his handgun and shot Littleton, Wade said.

As always, I'd like to know here where the gun came from, if it was legal, where it was bought and whether the man carrying it had a record.

This is the kind of thing that really ticks me off. Back in the day, when people got into an argument, they used brute force instead of hiding behind a gun. I don't believe in promoting violence, but I feel that a man who whips out a gun over some petty mess is a coward. Okay, you feel that some dude is dissin' your woman, and instead of confronting him man to man, you let your lady chew him out and wait until the guy tries to leave to shoot him. Please! He. Was. Leaving. It was over, and he shot him. Why did he have a gun in the first place? Did the guy threaten the woman's life? This just makes no sense to me. Whatever happened to a good old-fashioned fist fight?

S.B., I am so sorry for your loss. You have my condolences. Please don't be afraid to seek counseling during this difficult time. Most of all, honor your brother's memory by doing well in school, staying out of trouble, and helping your community. I wish you the best.

Donna, I completely agree with you about the "back in the day" comment. But I don't think gun control will solve that. And I'm pro-gun control (at least within what I would term reasonable limits).
