Bearing My Soul

I wanted to write a book about some of the things I dealt with in my life, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. For now, I created a new blog so that I can post what's going on in my mind and other people can join the group and share their feelings as well. Maybe if I write enough articles, I can eventually put that book together.

The name of the group is I Threw In The Towel, But God Threw It Back. That will also be the title of my book whenever I write the thing. I suggest that you read the article called Overview Of My Past first.

Seven members have joined the group so far, and we've given advice to each other, shared poetry and pictures, and we've even just vented when we felt like it. I wanted this group to be a cathartic experience, and I think it's headed in that direction. I've realized that being able to discuss things that bother you with other people in similar situations is therapeutic. I've been to support groups in town and I enjoyed them, but I like being able to pour your guts out to someone without having to leave home. I've gotten advice over the phone too, but I express myself better in writing because it decreases the chance that I will leave something out.

Check out the blog, and let me know what you think.

LW... Lord I hate to play freelance editor (especially with Lady Havoc around...) but you sound like your Baring your Soul, not Carrying it. Have a Nice Day! :D

And, honeybear, you need to learn the correct spelling of you're, as in a contraction of you are. L.W., I'll slug him for you. Don't worry about it. :) And I will check out your blog. Carry on!

L.W. Thanks for sharing all of this stuff about yourself. It may help others in more ways that you think. I may have more comments and or questions in the future. Just from interacting with you on this site, I know you to be an intelligent, articulate, thoughful, and (maybe mostly importantly) witty young woman. I know you have lots of difficulties in your life, but you also have these blessings, which in turn benefit people like me (since I get to read your stuff). So, just wanted you to know that I'm glad you're you.

Good luck, LW. You should be able to write a powerful book after overcoming so much. Just let it flow, the book is already within you!

IG and LH, thank you for pointing out my errors. As a former honors English student, I must admit that I am embarrassed by those oversights (especially the title). That's not like me at all, so I don't know what I was thinking. Overall, thanks to everyone for your encouragement. I hope that the blog will be a cathartic experience, and I also hope that something I say may happen to help someone else.

Pfft. Mrs Jordan, AP English teacher at Murrah would faint if I hadn't. I was aiming for humor, mind you. :)

L.W? I'm the one who misspelled you're up there. It's one of those errors you only catch after you hit "Submit".

I'm glad y'all ignore my grammar and spelling. I bet y'all don't expect much from me. I didn't major in English and I'm surprised they passed me. What they call that when they just get sick of seeing you - promoted, thrown out, moved on or something like that. By the way, we have people at the job to correct my errors.

I honestly thought "bearing" was a play on words. I kinda liked it.

I thought it was, too, Em. I think it's works either way. And I'm damn picky about words. ;-)

King are you trying to pick a fight? A female friend of mine told me once that if she was my women, she would wake up every morning and reach over and slap me. This way she could avoid all the torment and aggravation I was surely to send her way all day long for the purpose of evoking a slapping or tantamount emotional response. I believe you're worse than me at picking with people.

Don't worry, Ray. I stand by my sentence. And there is nothing that a man who would argue that the playing field was level for blacks and whites after the Civil War could say to get me to take him very seriously. (Ha! Take that, 'Fish.)

I never said any such thing. I just said for the most part everyone was broker or poor. Thats not saying the playing field was the same. Of course, I can't take someone seriously who discounts US News & WOrld Report as being the white media. Actually, I was being mischevious this morning. Although I will say seeing the Guardian post that pic of thestudents burned me up.

LW, you need to read Rock My Soul by Bell Hooks dealing with self-esteem. She talks a lot about black women, too. I'm reading it right now. I'll let you boroow mines or give you a copy as a Christmas present if need be. It will help you. Good luck.

I'll see your mischief and raise you one. ;-D And you didn't say the playing field was level; you said that former plantation owners were "in the same boat" as slaves after the Civil War ended. I stand corrected. (Let's not have that argument again, though, here and hijack L.W.'s blog. Anyone who is interested in that discussion should go here.)

I honestly thought "bearing" was a play on words. I kinda liked it. Emily, that crossed my mind, and I almost left it for that reason, but that perfectionist in me rises up from time to time. LW, you need to read Rock My Soul by Bell Hooks dealing with self-esteem. Ray, I've heard of bell hooks and planned on getting some of her books eventually. Thanks for the offer. I'll think about it. (Let's not have that argument again, though, here and hijack L.W.'s blog. Anyone who is interested in that discussion should go here.) I was wondering what you all were talking about. Thought I missed something. ;-)

Bearing can also be appropriate, now that I think about it. When you're depressed being alive is a burden, and carrying on despite it all is tough.

I think that the more everyone understands how serious depression is and how important it is to seek treatment, the fewer suicides we'll have.

Thought you might care. :-) Anyway, I set my blog up as a group, and the group has 30 members who share their stories of pain and triumph. Some have also shared photos and poems. The discussions can get intense at times. We've even had to talk a member our of committing suicide. I'm glad that members are able to encourage each other through the group. Here it is again: I Threw In The Towel, But God Threw It Back
