Did anyone else catch this little bit of nonsense on WLBT?
Three off duty Jackson police officers have been arrested after a bar fight in Ridgeland. It happened around 8:15 Monday night at Buffalo Wild Wings on Lakeshore Drive near the reservoir.
Monday at the Buffalo Wild Wings sports bar in Ridgeland, Ridgeland police were called after three Jackson police officers got into an exchange with a waitress over a three dollar bar tab.
Ridgeland police got into a fight with the three Jackson police officers when they tried to arrest the Jackson officers.
This is fabulous. Its like WWF-JPD out there. Anyone else think Melton's swagger is spreading into the city water?

Well, I think that the JPD is only doing what they have learned from their leader (Melton). They now believe that the law applies to everyone except some of them. When your mayor can take a small army with him to deliver an eviction notice, then I guess its okay for the police to kick butt in a restaurant. If only they had some leadership. If only they knew who really is their cheif, Melton or Anderson. Since Frank says that parents aer responsible for their children, then he should be held accountable for these officers. After all, we follow our parents lead!!!

I agree. I've said since the campaign that we are very real danger of becoming more lawless under Mr. Melton -- being that he presents himself as above the law. And, indeed, if the top-down culture is one of overblown police statism, then the police themselves are going to think that they are entitled to swagger, too. This can, in turn, lead to police brutality, false arrests, lawsuit — and yes stupid barroom brawls. Red alert.

At least Frank did one thing that he promised in his campaign speeches. He promised to unite the citizens of Jackson. Well, we are all uniting to get him out of office. You cannot go anywhere in this city and not hear complaints about this administration. I really would like to know what the residents of Texas thinlk about Frank. Do they want him back, or will they pay us to keep him over here?

You have a point, Lance, about the complaints. He has changed the tenor in a few short months with the comedy of errors that has been his administration's track record to date. I knew big problems were ahead from covering the campaign, but I never would have guessed at the extent some of these actions -- or non-actions, as it were. It's truly remarkable.

Speaking of his inactions, what ever happened over at the Fire Department? Did they ever get a chief? A lot of the firefighters are in a foul mood, especially after the ordeal on Terry Road at the adult video store.

I agree with the assessment that the administration sets the tone. I really don't like the "tone" that Melton is setting for the rest of the city employees. Its kinda scary.

Know of someone that was actually with the officers. Turns out, there are two VERY different stories regarding this. From my understanding, RPD was extremely aggressive towards the individuals (I believe all black). I won't go into any details I've been told from a witness since I've heard there will be other investigations into this... Don't think Frank and his attitude had anything to do with this. I'd suspect this has more to do with Ridgeland's attitude than Melton's or Jackson's. There's a reason I won't cross County Line (unless going north on the Trace or to TN)... I've had some lousy experiences with businesses and officials in that area.

I'd suspect this has more to do with Ridgeland's attitude than Melton's or Jackson's. I came to this same conclusion when I saw this on the news. Seems like a proverbial line has been drawn, although I can only guess what the dividing factors are. Ethnicity? Jurisdiction? We'll see how this plays out.

this has nothing to with ethnicity or jurisdiction it simply has to do with three druken,armed,off-duty police men that think they are above the law.

BTW, WJTV has been trying their hardest to get the mug shots of the three officers, but the Ridgeland police chief will not release them by request of the Jackson police chief. She doesn't want them shown during the investigation. The station has been using some sort of federal information act or something to make formal requests for the pictures. They have been reporting on their progress the past couple of days.
