Donna's Blog Gets a New Attitude

OK, all, I've decided to take my blog in a different direction. That is, I'm going to use it as more of a catch-all journal than a place to aggregate media stories. I stayed offline all weekend — heaven! — and I realized that there are so many little things I observe in this crazy, wonderful place called Jackson that I don't have a place to put.

I'm too busy right now to keep a regular journal, so I decided I would just combine efforts and start doing more of a personal blog than I have been doing (but not too personal, I swear). The truth is, the JFP is a very wonderful and amazing ride — an "interesting experiment," Todd calls it with a twinkle. And because of this paper, I get a front seat to so many things I want to share and comment on. And now that the rest of the site does just fine without me (other than moderating, which I'll still do), I've decided to focus more of my blogging efforts on my personal blog rather than commenting on so many other threads.

Donna's Blog 2.0 will be about much more than politics. I've always been interested in politics—inasfar as they contribute to social progress. But I'm interested in so many things that end up all rolled together in our lives—culture, animals, food, music, books and health (especially of late).

So stay with me, and we'll see how this thing unfolds. And, just to be clear, I will quote Miss Ali Greggs from her blog: "my blog, my rules." Remember that. ;-)

hmmm, Donna, this should be interesting. A more personal look into you and your observations: doesn't get much better than that. Can't wait to read it.

Well, all I know is that, of late, I feel like we're all living at the center of the universe. Look at the front-page battles on our hands that we're covering right now: the death penalty, abortion, homelessness, corporate ploys to hurt local businesses, youth rights, search and seizure, guns ... you name it, it's front and center in Jackson right now. And that's before we even touch issues of race. Anyway, I feel very blessed that I and the other folks of the Jackson Free Press are right in the mix to comment on what's happening here -- both to provide a broader education to MIssissippians about the issues, but also to let people in other places know that Mississippi isn't what they think we are. We have an incredibly strong progressive spirit here -- and, as usual, we are the front lines of freedom. Always have been. The country cannot be free if Mississippi is not free. And that means free for all of our citizens. And there's nothing better than blogging about what's happening here. It's amazing to watch, and I really want to chronicle it every way I/we can. This Blog 2.0 seems to be one way to do that.
