TRENT DABBS SOPHOMORE ALBUM 'WHAT'S GOLDEN ABOVE GROUND' SET FOR MARCH 28th U.S. RELEASE. "Nashville's singer/songwriter makes golden on sophomore album…Trent Dabbs strikes a balance of honesty and polish that guarantees staying power." - Paste Magazine. 'What's Golden Above Ground,' the sophomore album by Nashville singer/songwriter Trent Dabbs will be released March 28th on Ready, Set, Records! The record was produced by Dabbs' good friends and up and comers to the Nashville scene, Justin Loucks and Ian Fitchuk (Griffin House, De Novo Dahl) at the Benton House.
After working with producer Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, Jars of Clay) on debut release, Quite Often, Dabbs felt it would be hard to find a comparable sound. However, he is more pleased with the organic feel of this follow up release.
"This is the record I have been wanting to put out for a long time. There are no gimmicks, no gloss, no one telling me it isn't 'radio' enough…just my songs and some talented guys getting the best authentic sounds."
This 9-track album showcases Dabbs' lush vocals over delicate acoustic sounds and unadulterated, yet sophisticated production. The opening track, Harlem Rosewood, captures this raw emotion as the music accommodates the romance and reservation that the lyrics suggest. Other tracks like Your Guess Is As Good As Mine and Fireworks in Virginia share in this same simplicity and sentiment. The album also features several songs that show off Dabbs' knack for hooks and catchy melodies such as the title track, What's Golden Above Ground and the memorable love song, Sylvan Park.
Quite Often, Dabbs' debut album, was applauded nationwide by press that earned him songs on WB's hit show the O.C. and The Mountain, and an opening slot for REM at the historic Ryman auditorium, along with performances at SXSW and Bonnaroo in 2005. The debut was featured as one of Elle Magazine's Best of the Month CD Picks. CMJ Magazine said, "Quite Often sparkles with a bright mix of acoustic strings and electronic accents." Creative Loafing wrote "The title song, the beautiful 'Quite Often,' is the hit Ryan Adams fans have been waiting on since Heartbreaker." Comparing Dabbs' "atmospheric pop with a British strain" to Pete York and Joseph Arthur, Performing Songwriter Magazine said, "Quite Often delivers a gauzy pop of high order." And The Boston Globe declared Quite Often to be a "promising start for an engaging singer/songwriter."
After receiving critical acclaim on his debut album, Dabbs admits, "My desire for this release is just for it to be heard. I want to capture the hearts of fans. If the press likes it - great, but this is an album for the people."
Dabbs' CD release party is set for March 24th at 12th and Porter in Nashville, TN, he will also be performing an in-store at Grimey's on the release date, March 28th at 6pm. Plans are currently being made for some U.S. spot dates throughout the year.
