‘My Mama's In the Jackson Free Press'

I just found the coolest posting ever on the blog of our new writer, Tiffany Fitch. The whole thing is delightful—and love her props to Rebekah's cover—but nothing beats this line:

"My mama's in the Jackson Free Press," little voices sang out from the backseat and I wished I could add my voice to them.

Welcome Tiffany (and Heather). So glad y'all are adding your voices, and spirit, to the JFP!

Dang. What do I have to do to get quoted by Donna?? ROFL! Tiff's entry was hilarious. And I can vouch for her. She called me to let me know the progress on waiting for McDade's to put out their JFPs. Me? I visited Borders twice yesterday and hit Cups in the Quarter. I was out of time then and only was able to call Cups in the Fondren. Then, I spent the rest of the evening with a vomiting child, feeling very UNchick, so it was this evening before I got my copy (or 10).

Well, stock up while you can. Todd just told me we already had to send the distro guys back out to re-stock at the Chick hotels and other chick hotspots. This issue is sizzling, baby! And I'm hearing just wunnerful things about -- allow me to pay a bit of homage there to the Boss Queen -- the ChickDom columns. Pat the Photo Man told me his mama read the whole issue last night cover to cover. And several people have commented specifically on your and Tiffany's pieces.

Yay! The guy in Cups recognized me when I walked in. *snicker* Borders says they never got theirs. After 3 visits I gave up on them.

You'll get used to that. Ask Ali. ;-D I'll check on Border's asap. Thanks for the tip.

BTW, we can save y'all some extras, so you don't clear out all the racks, too. ;-P I'll put some with your white hoodie, in fact.

Dude, Tiff's piece...the "two pink lines" piece...I handed to a pregnant friend today and said "You need to read this...like, twice." She was convinced that because she was preggers we couldn't be friends anymore. It was a piece that touched a LOT of women. It was something that spoke to EVERY ONE of my friends who have been preggers while their friends weren't. Good Stuff. And just in case anyone cares...I asked my Mama before I burned my bra in public. This may be the south, but we still got rules. ;)

OH sorry, I have to post my mama's response to that. Ali "Mom, so would, like, you care if I took a picture of me burning my bar in public?" Ali's mom, "Honey, Don't you think if I was going to be embarrassed by you it would have happend by now? Have a good time. Do what you want." Ali. " Mom, you rock. Don't tell Mamaw. She might have a heart attack." Ali's Mom: "Jesus. I NEVER thought about telling Mamaw. Shut your mouth."

Ali's right, Tiff. I was hearing about this piece all over Hal & Mal's last night. It SPOKE to women, as did all the essays, apparently.

Yay! Tiff's piece sure spoke ot me. Having my first baby at 20. NONE of my friends were married mommies yet. Most still arent. For a while, I assumed I cou;dn't make friends with single girls or non-moms. I just assumed my kids made us too different. I prayed and prayed for a best friend. I made mommy-friends but no one that I really clicked with. I wanted a friend like the Ya-Yas, ya know? I finally have friends like that, and one of them is a newlywed with no kids. She wasn't even engaged when we started hanging out, so I finally proved my own ideas wrong. All that to say, yes, Tiff, your piece DOES ring true for many many women. It was the exact thoughts I tried to write and couldn't, back when Haydn was born (and then David).

PS Don't worry, Donna. I only took 5 copies and that is all I need. And, I am handing them out to people who didn't even know about JFP so maybe it'll get y'all new readers. *grins* Tiff says she will pick up my jacket when she heads your way next week. Who knows when I will make it to Jackson again. I generally avoid it with my children in tow.

Just this week when I had o go to the clinic for another $%@# sinus infection, I picked up three copies and placed two in the waiting room. Worked like a charm - you know how long those waits can be, especially with only one TV in there!
