[verbatim] For the second time in as many years, the New Orleans Saints are bringing NFL football to Mississippi, playing the Indianapolis Colts at Jackson's Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. With the state being a substantial part of the club's fan base, the Saints return to Jackson after holding the club's annual Black & Gold Scrimmage at the stadium in 2005. Part of what made this game possible was the involvement of BankPlus as an official sponsor of the event.
"We were grateful for the hospitality and support we received in Jackson last year and we've been determined since to return," said Owner Tom Benson. "We worked with state government officials and the Colts to make this happen. It's another chance to show our commitment to the entire region, and an opportunity for fans across Mississippi to attend an NFL game."
Tickets for the Aug. 26 contest are available immediately in Jackson at the stadium (2531 North State St.), or by calling (601) 956-0000. The Saints' fax number in Jackson is (601) 956-0009. Tickets can also be purchased at the club's official website neworleanssaints.com, ticketmaster.com, or by reaching Ticketmaster at 1-800-877-0898.
The sponsorship by BankPlus was a contributing factor in securing the teams playing in Jackson.
"The entire BankPlus team is excited about helping to bring the Saints to Jackson," said William A. Ray, President and CEO of BankPlus. "It is a win for the state, the Saints and their many Mississippi fans."
This will be the 12th preseason meeting between New Orleans and Indianapolis, with the Colts holding a 6-5 advantage. The two clubs last clashed in the preseason on Aug. 30, 2002, a 25-21 victory for the Saints. New Orleans holds a 5-4 advantage in the regular season, with the Saints having won five of the previous six meetings.
"We look at Mississippi as a key part of our success and support," said Benson. "They are passionate about the Saints and football, and we make every effort to reach out to the fans here to show how much they are appreciated and valued."
There will also be interactive activities and family events outside of Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium before the contest.
