Cyrus A. Webb is determined to use his new position as president of the Rankin County Arts Alliance to spread an appreciation for the arts in his native Rankin County. The Arts Alliance was established three years ago, and Webb said it is time for the community to become aware of its overall mission and goal.
"The organization's essential base within Rankin County is to network local artists together so that they may expand a promotion of the arts to the community," Webb said. "We are particularly interested in results within the school system, mainly by funding arts projects."
The group's progress so far has been slow.
"Rankin County is booming with growth, and the potential for the alliance is endless," said Amy Arender Hogue, outgoing vice president of the group. "We have so many plans going right now, but they are being done in baby steps."
Webb is also a member of the Jackson-Hinds Arts Alliance, and he plans to use that experience to construct a more stable group in Rankin County. The Brandon artist and author assumed his new position two weeks ago.
"Rankin County is my hometown," he said. "I have not done as much in Rankin County as I have in Hinds County, but I am hoping to help others to find and nurture their artistic voices the way I have done."
