Peavey Electronics and the Mississippi Afterschool Alliance are helping
Mississippi become the first state to offer a car tag that benefits afterschool
programs. The tag will be unveiled at the Lights On Afterschool rally on
November 28 at the historic MSU Riley Center for the Performing Arts in
Meridian, Miss.
For the $30 extra that drivers will pay for the tag -- which bears the
slogan "Afterschool Is Key" -- $26 will benefit afterschool programs in the
purchaser's home county. The Mississippi Afterschool Alliance must sell 200
tags before the state tax commission can manufacture them. The order form
will be available at http://www.afterschoolms.org
The Lights On Afterschool rally will also feature the conclusion of the regional
Peavey "Afterschool (Not) Idle" K-12 singing competition, judged by a
celebrity panel. The winner will receive Peavey musical equipment and studio
time with backing musicians.
Peavey Electronics Corporation, a global supplier of musical instruments and
professional sound equipment based in Meridian, provides online and marketing
support to the Mississippi Afterschool Alliance, and helped design the
Mississippi car tag.
We want to draw attention to the importance of afterschool programs, as
well as provide a spark for these students' creative development," said Mary
Peavey, President of Peavey Electronics.
Lights On Afterschool is the only national rally for quality afterschool
programs and is organized nationally by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit
awareness and advocacy organization working to ensure that all children and
youth have access to afterschool programs by the year 2010. Find out more
