In their belated story today about the motion filed accusing Melton being drunk the night of the Ridgeway rampage—which we reported about Friday—The Clarion-Ledger states that the motion "became public" Monday. This is either a lie, or a really dumb error. When Adam Lynch left Judge Webster's courtroom before noon Friday, he walked downstairs to the clerk's office, and there was the motion in the file. He copied it and brought it back; Brian made a PDF and put it online.
Are they just trying to make false excuses about why they were so late with these news? Or, are they too incompetent to look in the file on Friday for the motion? You decide.

That story is really hilarious. In it, Danks complains about the prosecution trying to try the case in the media -- by filing a motion!?! What about his bizarre attempt to get Peterson removed for indicting a mayor who allegedly likes to drink and swing a big stick at houses with, er, a criminal background? And aren't these attorneys still under gag? He talked to WJTV about children who supposedly bought drugs in the bad-bad house Friday night after the hearing even though the judge ruled explicitly that the allegations (which they've provided no evidence for, even if it was relevant to this case) wouldn't be allowed in. Then in this Ledger piece, he implies that Moore was the one drunk instead of Melton—and then Melton turns around and says he, indeed, smelled like alcohol because he threw out some bottles at a sports event earlier. So, it seems, Danks accused Moore for nothing. Can this crap get more absurd? And it's hilarious watching The Clarion-Ledger helping Danks with these arguments. The question is: Will they correct their stupid mistake/lie in the paper today about the motion?

This is not the first time that the Clarion-Ledger has been misleading in reporting the local news. There reporters are not reporting the news; they seem to have selective amnesia when they hit their keyboards. There was a recent racially charge kidnapping of children on a school bus in Walthall County by a female bus driver that has not even reported. Is the Clarion-Ledger going to report all sides of the incident? Is the Jackson Free Press going to pick-up the story and report the news? Devil19

That was a separate incident in the ongoing saga of this story. The story has not been reported chronically by the Clarion-Ledger or any other mainstream media. The entire incident is still under investigation.

Yes, I am wondering why the DA hasn't filed a contempt of court or whatever for the Melton team violating the gag order. They (the DA office) have sayed very tight lipped except for filing motions and talking about whatever happened the other day - which they didn't do much of! Looks like Danks is calling a bunch of others witnesses to help boslter the ITS A CRACKHOUSE defense they are mounting. Nothing but a list of homers for Melton, and some are probably getting paid!

WOW. You know, I hardly ever read the CL. I never realy liked it anyway. Now, however, I see the reason I never liked it. I appreciate you all for pointing out that it is a source of lackluster reporting of half truths and lies. Just goes to show, JFP ROCKS and always has.

Devil19, we're on Wathall. Hang tight. Agreed, Pike. Danks is out there trying this in the media without hesitation these days. And thinks Kurdistan or whatever you name is. ;-) Yep, The Clarion-Ledger is a bad newspaper. Really bad. I was at a brunch on Easter with lots of folks who've read it a long time, and just about everyone brought it up its new level of awfulness without us talking about it. The meme is bad for them these days. Their pitiful reporting on Melton, I think, has really exposed the incompetence and the (used-to-be) hidden bias that permeates there.
