Folks, the Mississippi Center for Justice is doing Election Protection, so report problems to them, too: 601.352.2269.

You can also call MS Protection and Advocacy System, especially if you (or someone you know) are a person with a disability and had trouble voting. 601.981.8207 or 1.800.772.4057

Folks, I just created a Jackpedia page where we can post ways to get help for voting/poll problems. Help us develop that page as we're paying attention now so that we have it for future use. Thanks!

I am curious regarding electronic voting. It seems now that electronic voting has taken away the option for write-in candidates. Was it just me that experienced this today or is this how it will be from now on on all elections, on all machines? - Michael

You know, I almost clicked "write-in" just to see what would happen. Did you try and it wouldn't let you write in anyone? You have a really good point, Michael. I will have to check with the Secretary of State's office about that. I'll report back here when I find out something.

I didn't click write-in because there wasn't a write-in option to click on. And that is my point, or question: is that option no more since having gone electronic? I voted Democrat, didn't like any of the 5 Democrat Governor candidates (don't like John Arthur Eaves and never heard of the other 4 or their positions) listed, and wanted to write in my own, as you could do on paper ballots. There was no option. Shame.

Oh. Well maybe that is a Democratic Party decision or something... I voted Republican and several of the positions had "Write-In" as an option. It seems like it was mainly the ones that only had one candidate running, but I could be wrong. I wish I had clicked on "Write-In" to see what would have happened. I assumed a touch-screen keyboard would pop up so you could type in the name.

I sure don't like the way the Republican's in Hinds Co. are trying to act as if it was no big deal that they didn't have enough Poll Workers or that the voting materials weren't picked up last night. O RLY?

There was no option. You should call about this. I voted in the Democratic Primary in Madison (much to the precint workers' surprise -- only 13th in the primary when my husband was 197th for Republican!) and "write in" was an option. I too wished I had checked it -- in the AG race, I just didn't vote. Anyone select "write in" and, if so, what happened?

I voted this morning before 8am and found myself disgusted because I didn't too much like anybody. Not to mention all those folks I never heard of before. I also didn't like it because i couldn't vote for and against some of the people in the other party since I'm a demopublican on occasions. I was tempted not to vote at all while standing there, but then I heard Jessie say "a voteless people is a hopeless people."

Now I know why the AG position wasn't on my ballot. It shouldn't have been on anyone's ballot because there's only one Dem and one Repub candidate and they will face each other in 2 weeks. Why was the AG race on your ballot Newt????

Well, its been an interesting election day - I took my 7 and a half month old daughter with me to vote. My wife is curious about something: If all this stuff is electronic, how come its taking them 3 and a half hours (or more) to compile the results? I mean my wife and I have both juggled databases with more records than the number of voters in the state and they didn't take that long to get answers out of the numbers and these should be simpler than some of the things either of us have done.

Well, Pilgrim, several reasons: write-ins, affidavit and absentee ballots. These must all be correctly accounted for and tabulated, if valid, before the boxes leave for the Court Houses. This is one of the hardest portions of a very long and busy day for the poll workers. But, believe me, its a whole lot faster now than a few years ago.

Y'all know I like both parties (Democrats and repugnants) equally; however, could it be that the problems with the ballots yesterday on behalf of the latter party had to do with the Almighty bringing his wrath upon that instiutution? According to history and scripture, every now and again, the Lord sees something so terrible, hurtful and the opposite of good for his people thay he sends warnings, signs of destruction and wrath. What we need now, and have always needed, is a president who rather make love than war - lke we had before Bush. If the head of the apple is rotten so is the whole apple. So it is written. So shall it be done.
