Councilman Ben Allen just alerted us that WJNT 1180 and the Northside Sun are sponsoring a "Meet the Ward 1 Candidates" forum tonight, Thursday, Aug. 9, at Christ United Methodist Church (6000 Old Canton Road) in the fellowship hall from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. All candidates will be making statements and answering questions.

The first question that should be asked is: "Will you be a rubber-stamp puppet for Melton"?

I think that the "rubber-stamp" days are coming to a screeching halt! Since those Alphabet Boys and Girls (FBI) are asking for whodonit and way, things are beginning to settle. I don't live in Ward 1 but, there are a couple of interesting canidates. Ditto looks so much like his father. I didn't realize that he was a Republican. There is one guy who reminds me of Mr. Tillman. For sure, we don't need two (2) Mr. Tillmans on the City Council. Archer and others seem to have a handle on some of the issues. This should be an interesting race.

Archer and others seem to have a handle on some of the issues. This should be an interesting race. I would be confident in Archie's abilities if I didn't think he would be in lockstep with Melton.

I listened to Archie at the forum and during his interview on WJNT and I'm not impressed. He's an empty suit, an airhead who speaks well but really doesn't offer any substantive ideas. Pastor Jenkins is a nice guy who I know personally and have a lot of respect for as a person, but I think he lacks the depth to be on the Council at this critical stage in Jackson's future. Weill talks a good game about working with JPD on the crime, but he sounds a little shaky on how to address the city's fiscal crisis. I think John Ditto should and will emerge the winner of this race.
