Suddenly, today, FEMA is sending me press releases (see below). They have not sent me press releases before. I also am getting a flurry of statements from the governor's office about what he's doing on the Coast. Granted, I'm the suspicious type, but you don't suppose all this Katrina PR has something to do with this Bloomberg story yesterday, do you?
Regardless, here's my first FEMA release:
PR 146 MS FIRE DEPARTMENTS RECEIVE $137,000

Media Contact: (770) 220-5226
MISSISSIPPI FIRE DEPARTMENTS RECEIVE MORE THAN $137,000 IN FUNDING THROUGH FEMA'S ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT PROGRAM
ATLANTA – Today, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $137,588 in Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations in the state of Mississippi. Nationally, the fiscal year (FY) 2007 AFG awards, which will be distributed in phases, will ultimately provide over $490 million to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country.

I think FEMA decided today to start sending us press releases. It's a funny coincidence. I have a feeling that we're going to hear a sh!t-ton between now and November about what the Bush administration, and their friends here in the state, are doing to help Katrina victims. Two years after the fact.

It seems that Barbour, his relatives and lobbying entities have had a "hayday" with Katrina funds while needed individuals and families continue to struggle. I am still puzzled on how we can build so much in Iraq in days; yet, in years, MS and New Orleans continues to look as if the Hurricane struck yesterday.
