OK, that's it. We just saw the Fondren deputy-horse in our parking lot, and as adorable as he is, we are really tired of the trail of poop that he is leaving behind in this, the best walking community in the city. It's in the parking lot in front of our building, and it is lining the parking lot leading up to Jerusalem Cafe. I stepped in it last week near Lenny's.
Sheriff, poop is not good for business. Please get one of those poop bags for your horse, or get someone to come along behind him and clean up the mess. This is unacceptable.

Maybe he can help with something that happened to us on October 10. "We were driving in to work this morning, when as we passed over the Trace on Cynthia, we saw two horses. They had broken out of their pen and one was walking across the street. I called 911, and got the Jackson Police Department. JPD listened, then gave me the number to Animal Control and told me to call them. I called Animal Control, and told them the situation. They said, “Oh! That’s in Hinds County. You’ll need to call the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.’ Growing frustrated and concerned for those horses, I called 411 to get the number to Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. The gentleman who answered transferred me to the radio room. The lady in the radio room then said, “Oh, that address is in Jackson. Let me transfer you to JPD.” Dizzy from being spun in circles, I explained to the lady that I had spoken to JPD and Animal Control already. She said, “Well, since it’s in the city, that’s the only thing we can do.” And then she hung up on me. At that point, I gave up." I included this in an email to my coworkers showing them exactly what can happen when no one claims responsibility for anything. It was a good example.

Chief-Sheriff should assign his most experienced officers Recio and Wright to poop cleanup duty. After 2 years of following Meltdown they are used to doing such dirty work, and I'm sure they wouldn't mind the smell.

Did you know the city use to quarter horses in Smith Park after the Civil War (the recent unpleasantness as it is known by some). The city needed the rent money to pay bills......

The awesome and considerable talents of Recio and Wright should not be compromised, depleted or wasted scooping or swooping up animal crap. They should be used for demolishing crime, something they've proven good at.

Are we talking about horse crap or frank's crap? They both smell and are hard to deal with. It would be great if we could put a poop bag on frank but that still wouldn't be enought to hold all the s$$$ he has done over the last 2 1/2 years. Sorry folks, I just couldn't resist.

Lady, the Cynthia Road/Natchez Trace area is outside the city of Jackson, so that should've been a county issue. I could be mistaken, but I think cities in Mississippi do have some jurisdiction in unincorporated areas with a certain distance of the city limits. I have seen JPD cars waiting on speeders on US 49 at the Cynthia Rd. intersection, which makes think cities have such jurisdiction.

golden eagle, thanks so much for that. Honestly, there are so many areas on my route to work where I would have no clue who has jurisdiction. It was just strange to call from that spot and get Jackson 911, then get passed around between them, Animal Control, and Hinds County. No one was willing to take charge of that situation. This is something they need to fix, especially for the residents of that area. They'd probably get a better response from Ghostbusters.

Charles Evers on his Wed. hs talk show, raised holy hell will McMillin about the horse riding police in Fondren and policemen on motorcycles in Eastover. Charles wasn't griping about the poop or the noise: He was pissed that the really high crime areas in Jackson were not considered.

Well, he has a point. I've said it before—why not have a constant presence on high-crime/drug-selling blocks? And wherever the police horses poop, they need to scoop it, and not just in Fondren.
