Well, it has something to do with being "long on the dark history of Mississippi." ;-) ... without defensiveness or hesitation.

I concur with the headline. I'm happy that Civil Rights have been added to the state curriculum.

Although he had witnessed the horrors of apartheid and the crying out for offenders and oppressors to be brought to justice, Archbishop Tutu, through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, challenged South Africa to envision yet another kind of justice: justice that restores. In giving voice to this vision before students at Cornell University, Tutu said: "We seek a healing. We want a kind of society that is gentle and caring. Can you help me create this new kind of world? I have no one except you." That Donna Ladd and Dr. Ball urge us here in Mississippi, through a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, to aspire to nothing less than such a world fills me with gratitude, astonishment, and awe.
