I dunno folks. Ive become preeety apathtic lately and indifference has crept in. I think that if we as good citizens are to actually get something accomplished we can pretty much NOT count on elected officials for the good example of leadership that we look to to guide us.
Ive wondered recently...are these guys just corrupt to the core or are they just incompetent? Or both? I know one thing these "grown" folks are grade A embarassing! And this town needs an enema!!!! City Council holding "secret" meetings. Hinds county Supervisors holding "secret" meetings. Not to mention one actually LOCKING the door on one. These are adults people. The head of the Dept of Health makes more than the friggin Govenor and the Board is comprised of folks who their own personal care homes! No fair inspections there. The Pharmacy board has a couple of folks on it that OWN pharmacies. can you say conflict of interest? The police chief refuses to present a plan and the school superintendent doesnt have a comment. Even when asked if he sexually harassed another MAN he declined to either be candid or even defnd himself.
It seems the entire system here needs to be blown up and started anew. And these are the days that I wish we could LITERALLY do that. There is no accountability and the Good Ole Boy system that we always complained about years ago has been replaced the Homie syndrome. A bunch of folks in jobs and less than HALF of them are competent! And most of them don't even practice simple decorum or tact when in public. Sure even I agree its a time and place to "Get Ghetto" but a damn Supervisors meeting is NOT it!!!!
what are your thoughts?
p.s. This is going to be part of my exploratory research. Now officially "giving consideration" to the thought of running for public office. shhhhhhhhhh.....don't tell anyone yet.

Your secret is safe with us, Kaze. ;-) And I feel your pain on the public officials we've got in place right now, with a very few exceptions.

This is whats giving Jackson a black eye moreso than any other problem I can see. In a city thats over 70% African American it pains me because those damn "Good Ole Boys" can sit back and say "SEE...I TOLD YA THEY COULDNT RUN ANYTHING" (dont guess that would apply to the health dept/pharmacy fiascos though)

Yeah, well, a lot of the good ole boys couldn't, either—they got us here—but your point is well taken. What we need are high standards throughout our community, and we all have to hold our elected officials, our co-workers, our media leaders and those we mentor to high standards. Yes, understand their challenges and why they're there, but not to give them a pass to do inferior work. I think you and I agree on this strongly, Kaze. Maybe you should write a column along these lines.

Sure, Kaze, as long as you take the high ground and avoid personal insults and unsubstantiated (to me) allegations. I assume these are elected/appointed public figures, and you have the right to say who you think should not be holding those positions. Lock and load.

Well...in my most humble opinion. And lt me preface by saying NOTHING PERSONAL fellas but could ya just step aside... George H.W. Bush - Not being completely forthcoming about the war. Mismanaging the lives of thousands. Wanting to spend MORE money on a losing scenario. Thad Cochran - for supporting the above (even Trent Lott questioned it...TRENT LOTT people) Haley Barbour - for vowing to veto the minimum wage hike. He did a comendable job post Katrina but you're leaving good hard working people out to dry. Especially young folks and thats where I draw the line Doug Anderson - just read the paper...Locking a door, calling a colleague and idiot in the press...holding a suspicious meeting...No tact simply embarassing you are as my grandaddy used to say "a grown-ass man" the kiddie stuff needs to leave. The board of Supervisors - approving 1500 apiece for three consultants to do what you shouldve been doing all along. I agree, we dont need to foot the bill for one. Let alone 3. Leslie McLemore, Frank Bluntson, Charles Tillman...simply a new blood issue. Like you guys...but cmon its time...Leslie I MAY be coming for your spot, Frank you're ailing a bit, and Charles a little long in the tooth. nothing personal. Shirlene Anderson - we need a plan, a comment, or some show of life from you. Either show us youre strong and qualified or get out of the way. I think you are but you havent shown it. Earl Watkins - The bond issue passed but you're having serious "personnel issues" as you say. A new screening process needs to be instituted and YOU need to put these parents minds at ease by making a CONCRETE statement on ALL th controversies. Ive got a BIG problem with a MAN who cant simply say whether or not he made sexual passes at another MAN. Either come out, stay in, or resign. Everyone on the school board except for Ann Jones. See previous explanation. The Southern Style /Weekend editors at CL- I know Donna youve got your issues but im tired of their GROSS NEGLEGIENCE IN COVERING ENTERTAINMENT HERE...particularly hiphop. If I think of some more Ill post..but thats my list for now.

I just wondering how so many of the Council people, School Board Officials, President of the Country, Lott, Cochran, and Barbour made the list but the big deal and constant f-up in this City is: F R A N K M E L T O N What's up with that Kaze???????????/ It seems that everyone has someone that he/she is willing to protect in the scheme of things. This is the reason why nothing gets done. We still can't see the ELEPHANT under the GREEN on the POOL TABLE. Bu the way, even the ELEPHANT is afraid of a rat. Ex. We wouldn't have a Sherlene Anderson if we didn't have a Frank Melton. This is not a chicken-egg story. The Chicken came first.

Well, Kaze, the Weekend section is geared toward suburban mamas and grandmamas so they can tell their youngsters what to do on the weekends, you know. And there are some Media Audit numbers out there to back up that quip. ;-)
