[verbatim from Nancy Loome of The Parents Campaign] Things are really heating up at the Capitol, and pro-education legislators are looking to The Parents' Campaign network members (you!) to win full funding for our children! All eyes are now focused on next week's rally, and legislators have said that your attendance there will be the key to a full-funding victory. WE REALLY NEED YOU THERE NEXT THURSDAY!
Additionally, I learned today that the House of Representatives is scheduled to convene at 12:00 noon next Thursday, right after our rally. It is very likely that the MAEP funding bill will be brought up at that time. We need you to be with us in the House gallery to watch that vote. Your presence there will send an undeniable message to your legislator: you are paying attention to this vote!
Please join us and bring a car load of friends:
Step up For Children Rally and Press Conference
Thursday, January 11, 2007
9:15 AM Gather in the State Fairgrounds Parking Lot, Jefferson St. Entrance
(take High Street west to Jefferson, left onto Jefferson, left into fairgrounds)
9:30 AM Begin March to the Capitol
10:00 AM Rally and Press Conference on the South Steps of the Capitol
11:00 AM Meet with your legislators (we will have people there to help you)
12:00 NOON House Convenes - likely debate on full funding of MAEP
Wear red and bring signs with the name of your school district and "Fully Fund MAEP now!" If you can't come, send someone in your place.
It is important that we achieve full funding early in the session. Every time education has been funded late in the session we have been left scraping for crumbs. The only time MAEP was fully funded (the last election year) it was done within the first month of the session. The money is there - much of it has already been collected and is waiting in state coffers (they underestimated 2006 revenue, and the overage has not been budgeted). Our children deserve an early vote on this issue!
Please, please come next Thursday and bring your friends. I can't tell you how important this is. Call me if you have questions or concerns (601-672-0953 cell). I'm looking forward to seeing you! It will be a great day!
Gratefully-
Nancy

a few questions - is it This Thursday, not next? why wear red? and can a person come even if they are not a parent of a child in school, who just believes this state should invest in education fully now and forever and should stop all the excuses? I'll try to be there, and my best to all who show up.

This Thursday, don't know why red (to show up?) and, of course, all supporters are welcome.
