Since their formation in 2000, Living Better Electrically has been a staple on the Jackson music scene. Now, keyboardist Chris Michaels and brothers Joshua and Jakob Clark (a JFP designer) are headed for Austin, leaving Jackson (and drummer Jody Suarez) behind. Come by their farewell show (with Micro Dream Home) on May 11 at Hal & Mal's and beg them not to go.
What are you looking forward to in Austin?
Joshua: I just want to be surrounded by music and be able to go out every day of the week to see live music, and record, and live, and just be in a different place for a little while. No grand aspirations or anything.
Jakob: I hope to pay my bills and eat—and play music at the same time.
What stories will you tell people in Austin about Jackson?
Jakob: For me, it's not really any one story. I just think it's interesting how I grew up with a lot of young, creative people that ended up being older creative people. It's made it really interesting to see my friends become real artists and real musicians that are actually talented—you know, probably on a global level more than just here where they live. It's interesting to see a lot of talented people grow up here.
Aren't you going to miss us?
Joshua: We're going to miss Jackson. I got this a few days ago (holding up his arm to reveal a tattoo of the word "Mississippi"). … Austin, I'm sure, is a great place to live, but I wouldn't want to die there, so we'll come back.
