City Councilman Marshand Crisler and Leslie McLemore confirmed today at a special council meeting to approve the city payroll that Melton bodyguard Michael Recio is no longer an assistant chief and is back working in the mayor's office. Neither Melton or Recio would comment to the Jackson Free Press about the demotion.
At the meeting, the council decided to hold a confirmation hearing on Sheriff Malcolm McMillin's second position as Jackson police chief on Dec. 10. The Council also voted 5-2 to approve the city payroll they failed to pass Monday, with Crisler and Margaret Barrett-Simon voting against it due to controversial pay raises approved by Lt. Gerald Jones during his 36-hour stint as interim chief earlier this month.

Clarion-Ledger today on Recio: Melton said Wednesday night that Recio would be in charge of the city's new truancy initiative and will work to help keep kids in school. "These kids that are not going to school is an issue that's important in my life, and Recio said it's just as important to him," Melton said. Recio will take a hefty salary with him. During Wednesday's special City Council meeting, members approved the payroll, and Recio's raise as an assistant chief was included. When Recio left the mayor's office in October, he was making $41,761.20 annually. His annual salary was bumped to $70,289.04. Melton said Recio will keep the money and also will be eligible for overtime.

It is the protocol of the city that when a person is demoted their pay is as well , what happened here? Is Recio Assistant Chief to the mayors office or what. This is a slap in the face to every employee of the city that is actually loyal to the city and didn't get the raise the mayor promised when he was first elected.

All of the melton roads lead to KIDS. This is awful! melton said that he would not get involved with police work; however, he was front row and center after the robbery and shooting at the service station on Maple and Bailey Ave. last evening. melton said that he knows all of the kids in that community and that he is sure that none of them had anything to do with the shooting and robbery of the store worker. Also, the gunmen wore masks.

Classy, I think there will be another hearing about the budget and the salary. Recio was paid retroactively and for the short period of his being given the job and with Johe's signature in his 36hr Chief's position. I'm with you. This really sucks! frank continues to be out of control and until he is removed, the City will continue to face one nut case after the other.

I thought the same thing justjess but remember, no one is mentioning the 114,000 or more we still have to pay Shirlene or whether or not she has taken this so called new position. I think the mayor does thing as a distraction in hopes that the people will forget the real issue, then his boys or girls wind up keeping the loot, while we all wonder around wondering where the City's money is going. It is not the first time I have seen this and I am sure it will not be the last.
