Nix Offered USM Job? Nix, AD Says

Southern Miss athletic director Richard Giannini is denying reports that Tyrone Nix has been offered the job of head football coach at Southern Miss. Nix, a former USM player and assistant coach, is presentlly the defensive coordinator at South Carolina.

Nix would appear to be the front-runner for the job. But Sunday Morning Quarterback isn't so sure. Nix will probably be leaving Columbia, S.C., soon, no matter what USM does. Steve Spurrier might fire him for the Gamecock defense's underwhelming play late in the season. Or Spurrier might take Nix with him to LSU.

Southern Miss running back Damion Fletcher won the Conerly Trophy. FYI, USM just got rid of Jeff Bower, the guy who consistently won games with overlooked players like Fletcher. Just saying.
