Jamie Franks today sent out an e-mail to supporters, responding to the state (and national?) Republican Party's "liberal"-baiting campaign—"Too Liberal for Mississippi"—against him. Here is Franks' verbatim statement:
I'm being attacked. With the polls showing that Mississippians overwhelmingly approve of a grocery tax cut and support our plans for a Mississippi that lives up to our ideals, the Republican Party leadership has gotten scared - and are now spending money "fighting for their boy's political life." They have spent almost a quarter of a million dollars on a television ad buy that distorts the truth about me and misleads the public.
My opponent knows he is on the the wrong side of the issues important to Mississippi's working families. So while we are running on the issues important to the lives of our state's working families, my opponent is running a campaign of fear and smear. That's simply all he has got.
The powerbrokers in Jackson realize what's at stake: they don't want to lose their grip on our state capitol where they call the shots at the expense of Mississippi's working families.
