WAPT is reporting that the Jackson Police Officer Association is complaining to the City Council about the mayor's disruptions in the department, and blaming his interference for low morale among the police force, which is contributing to a severe police shortage:
The association also said there's a severe officer shortage, citing as an example Precinct 4, where there used to be 70 officers. Just 45 officers work in the precinct now. Members also want Melton to stop interfering, saying he contaminates crime scenes and complaining that JPD has become the laughing stock in the law enforcement community because of his interference.
They blamed the mayor's favoritism toward his bodyguards as a reason for low morale among the rank-and-file.
