The Mississippi Miracle

Jim Rome is talking about this as I type ...

ESPN has posted video of the fantastic final play of Saturday's Trinity-Millsaps game. Trinity won 28-24 by scoring a touchdown on the final play of the game that featured numerous laterals. It's being called the Mississippi Miracle. On State Street, it's more like Major Misery.

This story continues to capitvate the nation. I just heard a story on ABC's radio newscast. And here's some of the stories:
San Francisco, Sporting News, Palm Beach, Fla.

It brings to mind the infamous Stanford Band play at the conclusion of the 1982 Stanford-Cal game.

I didn't even know it happened until I saw it on ESPNews earlier today. I wish I would've been listening to the play-by-play when it happened.

It's terrible to lose a game on a play like that. The referees had to miss some kind of rule infraction. Milsaps was robbed! "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying to win, and it's only cheating if you get caught."

I find it incredibly hard to believe that on a 2+ minute desperation play with that many laterals that there was not a single hold on the field. However, if they didn't, that's pretty damn impressive even beyond the play itself. Next year is my 10 year Millsap's reunion. I might have to consider going if they are going to have fireworks like that.

The play probably seemed to last an eternity to Millsaps players, coaches and fans, but it was really 62 seconds.

From what I saw, it seemed like a lot of the Millsaps players were just standing around and not trying to make plays. I wish I would've listened to the play-by-play on that.

The guy who did the play-by-play for Trinity, whose call was heard on ESPN, is from Jackson, The Clarion-Ledger reports.

In a football game, 62 seconds is an eternity.
