Thank God. I have been MOST!!!!!!!! disappointed in Barbour. Many tried to tell him about how unethical the Commissioner of one of the largest agencies in the state was. Barbour kept the man. Made me sick to my stomache.

One more thing. I was one of those many who talked with Barbour's campaign. First with Henry, then with Nicole. I am not ashamed to admit it either.

Who is going to hold the Republican's feet to the fire when they do things like not debate in front of minority audiences? Eaves has seperated himself from Barbour because Barbour will just wink at that type of thing. Eaves has really brought in a fresh take on being a Democrat.

What is Eaves doing to reach out to the black community? I really don't know. Just being a Democrat is good enough. I think he appeared outside of a JSU game along with most of the other Democrat candidates a recently.

I really don't know. I've tried to make contact with Eaves months ago. Left message after message. I have worked for 4 state agencies and still have alot of credibilty with each one. I did not make any monetary contributions to Barbours campaign, however I did call MANY!!!!!!!!! people trying to get them to vote for HB because I promised this to Henry and Nicole. I even had at least 20 signs in my yard. That won't happen again, at least with HB. My phone bill was ridiculous and for what?

my impression is that eaves relationship with black leaders is far better than musgrove's ever was. my impression is that everyday black folks like him, perhaps because of his relative youth and his kind manner.. remember he has represented hundreds maybe thousands of plaintiffs,an appreciable number of whom were AA . and believe it or not his faith message is resonating in black churches.he has financially contributed to black candidates locally and nationally for years.he counts bennie thompson as a close friend and i believe the feeling is mutual.organized labor in mississippi, whose ranks are more than half black, feel a special kinship to him.anecdotally, he has been working the crowds on friday nights at provine, lanier and other public schools. when i was with him there was a lot of mutual hugging and high fives. this campaign has the feel of cliff finch a la 1975-- but this time with an evil villain, named haley..

HMMM...Not sure if this is true or not. However a head of a state agency, who was appointed by Musgrove and kept by Barbour has STRONG!!!!! ties to Thompson.

Going to football games and passing around a few contributions does not equal reaching out to the black community. Campaign contributions are politically motivated not an effort to embrace a community. Representing AA's in your law firm is not reaching out unless you represent them for free. I'm back to the same old tired question I've been asking, what is it about him I can get excited about? I'm not against the man I just can't seem to get happy about him as a candidate and I still feel like I'm being schmoozed. Now the part about labor liking him, if I can get more information about that maybe I can begin to see some light.

I think his stance is too Anglo White Christian American and everyone else doesn't matter. Prayer in school - Muslims? Budhists? Mormons? etc. "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman" - Guess what there are a lot of gays in Mississippi and they "tend" to vote democrat. The list goes on. I he needs to get off his moral high ground and not push those issues. I'm sorry - that's just my problem.

HB just plain does not care. I met him years ago when he was campaigning for another office. I campaigned hard for him. Then tried again. He never really gave me the time of day. Where does this end? BTW, has anyone gotten the bottom line on the "Blind Trust" issue?

The one that keeps pushing his moral crap down our throats at every turn, Eaves. Thought that would be understood when I was speaking of democrats.

Eaves didn't just stand outside a JSU football game. He was inside the game going up and down the stairs shaking hands and greeting people. I consider that reaching out to the Black population. When has HB done anything in the Black community?

Sounds like it to me, maad. More importantly, his policy ideas would help the black community, it seems. Meantime, Barbour is diverting funds from lower-income people to the rich on the friggin' Coast. Man.

PuckInJackson, I hear your issue with Eaves and his Religious/Moral and Ethical Stand. What I hear is SPIRITUALITY and a connection to a higher power. Even the most primitive societies of the world worship something/someone(s). Muslems, Budhists, Mormans and the list goes on, have their "higher power." One of the main ingredients in keeping man/woman in check is the fear of being negatively judged/punished for behaviors that are against the grains of "the doctrine." I think that Eaves understands and truly believes in this philosophy that serves as a spring board for his political mission. Surviving slavery and breaking some of the chains of segregation here in MS was done through prayer and faith in the belief by Black folks that a "GOD" would touch the hearts and heads of Whites is MS; thus, creating a better understanding of the needs, wants and desires of the Black man. When you look at this list, it resembles those needs, wants and desires of Whites and other races of people. This State is in trouble and has been for a very long time, and that affects us ALL. The evidence of this is our National rating of being on the bottom of most things; HALEY BARBOUR'S TENURE AS GOVERNOR HAS NOT CHANGED THAT; If anything, it's worse - from health care to education. I believe that John Eaves understands this and has promised to address these issues: EDUCATION: He promises to fight to raise teacher salaries, reduce class room sizes and add more resources to include take home text books for public school children. Did you know that many of the schools in Jackson do not have enough text books and that children in some of our school can not take their books home? Parents, who can afford it, pay for text books out of their own pockets. GAMING: I don't think that this is a "holier-than-thou" position: John Eaves seems to understand that Mississippians spend a hell of a lot of money but, reap too few benefits from the gaming industry. Barbour fast tracked the rebuilding of every casino destroyed/damaged on the Coast yet, thousands continue to live in roach & rat infested, crime ridden, formaldehyde laced, card board boxes, better known as FEMA TRAILERS. This issue along with the "cop-out" from INSURANCE companies is understood by this challenger, Eaves. HEALTH CARE: I'm sure that we are all aware of the cuts in medicaid and the poor/disabled/elderly Mississippians who had to leave nursing home facilities due to the Barbour AXE. The CHIP program was hard hit; yet, we see our Governor standing tall with George Bush who continues to cost the Country SIX BILLION DOLLARS/WEEK to finance that cruel and inhumane war in IRAQ. CORRUPTION: This has been a huge problem for MS. We have had far too many of our leaders go down that road with sticky fingers. Eaves is using a lot of his own earnings to avoid the trap of the BIG PAY BACK. Barbour has given many of our golden eggs to others (IN CONTRACTS) who promote his personal financial causes. GROCERY TAX: MS has one of the highest taxes in the Country while remaining the poorest State in the Nation. This is awful! I hope that voters will remember the political maneuveing by Gov. Barbour to halt any more hikes in tabacco taxex? I wonder why? This has been and continues to be an achilles heel with Eaves. Ladd asked, "what has Eves doine to reach out to the Black community?" If his hand reaches and creates remedy for the above mentioned areas, Blacks and all Mississippians will be amply compensated for ther trust, belief and VOTE.
