Jackson Free Press

The Clarion-Ledger is reporting that a house was burglarized on Riverwood Drive, Mayor Frank Melton's street in North Jackson. The homeowner fired at them and they ran into the woods. Authorities apprehended two men and are looking for a third. Nearby McLeod Elementary School was placed on lockdown.

They released the address; it's across the creek from Melton's house (see map here), but it's something that crime in broad daylight is striking so close to his home. (Melton's home is close to the end of the Riverwood strip on the left.)

I'm glad they had the forethought to put the school on lockdown. I hope they can apprehend the third suspect.

"The homeowner fired at them and they ran into the woods." Probably not a good idea to fire at *fleeing* suspects, but... Glad the homeowner is OK. I wonder if the "robbers" are *known.*

The homeowner didn't shoot at "fleeing" suspects. Shot at them, then they fled. "The homeowner fired at them and they ran into the woods." It doensn't say homeowner fired at them as they ran into the woods.

Shot at them, then they fled. BubbaT Too bad they missed. My guess is they came from the neighborhood down Sedgwick, walked the trails and came up behind all those houses. The City really needs to enforce codes, patrol, and improve this area before it turns into a bad neighborhood.

I don't know what to say except to quote Junior Walker and the Allstars: Shotguuuun, shoot him fo he runs now. I'm all for homeowners shooting people trying to break into their houses on them. All I ask is that you shoot him before he runs, now.
