The Clarion-Ledger is reporting that the feds are targeting the Country Club of Jackson for violating immigration law:
A criminal complaint has been drafted against the Country Club of Jackson citing immigration and Social Security violations, U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton announced today. According to the complaint, the country club was knowingly employing illegal immigrants. The Country Club of Jackson has entered into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice not to prosecute for two years. In exchange, the country club must pay a $214,500 fine, be audited by ICE and establish a training program to help employers detect fraudulent documents.

Oops. Betcha there are members of the Country Club who are rabidly anti-"illegals," in theory at least. Anybody know what the racial makeup of their membership is like? Is it safe to assume that, in 2008, it's multiracial?

If that club is multiracial, then I have a ski lodge in Miami to sell. But you know how it is: they're probably the same people who hire illegals as nannies, maids and gardeners. I don't mean to sidetrack from the story, but did you see the story of the Mexican restaurant in which the owner said was unfairly targeted by the Border Patrol? It was WJTV's newscast yesterday and today.

Guess they didn't pay enough to the right officials! Hey, I thought all those rich Republicans were in bed with each other!

I'd like to know what the membership is, demographically speaking. I don't know much about the country-club set. It's never interested me much. But if they are going to get in trouble for hiring undocumented workers, it would be interesting to know what people those people were being paid under the table to serve. Anyone? Personally, I think the feds are doing a pretty good job of late at targeting the scoundrels, regardless of party. I was worried before the Scruggs investigation was revealed.

I've never been to the Jackson Country Club, but I'm pretty sure I remember some sort of event with civil rights significance being held there at some point within the past two years (with some notable black speakers), so I assume that it's multiracial. Can't say for sure, though.
