Senate Votes for Telco Immunity in Wiretapping

Cochran and Wicker both voted "yea."

The Senate caved to the White House on immunity for telecommunications companies while overturning amendments that would have provided greater checks in the interest of civil liberties. Senator McCain voted in favor the final measure, while Obama and Clinton did not make the vote. Clinton issued a statement from Texas saying she would have voted No.

So take THAT you damned inconvenient civil liberties!

So where are my Rand-ites on this one? Is Objectivism purely about free markets, or is it about free peoples as well? (And, yes, this is blatant trolling to dig up discussion on an issue that should outrage Americans across political ideologies.)

Another reason to dislike McCain.

Not to mention Cochran and Wicker. Does McCain get the rap for this but not them? We gotta turn 'em out in our own state, too, eh? Plus all these guys and gals: Alexander (R-TN) Allard (R-CO) Barrasso (R-WY) Baucus (D-MT) Bayh (D-IN) Bennett (R-UT) Bond (R-MO) Brownback (R-KS) Bunning (R-KY) Burr (R-NC) Carper (D-DE) Casey (D-PA) Chambliss (R-GA) Coburn (R-OK) Cochran (R-MS) Coleman (R-MN) Collins (R-ME) Conrad (D-ND) Corker (R-TN) Cornyn (R-TX) Craig (R-ID) Crapo (R-ID) DeMint (R-SC) Dole (R-NC) Domenici (R-NM) Ensign (R-NV) Enzi (R-WY) Grassley (R-IA) Gregg (R-NH) Hagel (R-NE) Hatch (R-UT) Hutchison (R-TX) Inhofe (R-OK) Inouye (D-HI) Isakson (R-GA) Johnson (D-SD) Kohl (D-WI) Kyl (R-AZ) Landrieu (D-LA) Lieberman (ID-CT) Lincoln (D-AR) Lugar (R-IN) Martinez (R-FL) McCain (R-AZ) McCaskill (D-MO) McConnell (R-KY) Mikulski (D-MD) Murkowski (R-AK) Nelson (D-FL) Nelson (D-NE) Pryor (D-AR) Roberts (R-KS) Rockefeller (D-WV) Salazar (D-CO) Sessions (R-AL) Shelby (R-AL) Smith (R-OR) Snowe (R-ME) Specter (R-PA) Stevens (R-AK) Sununu (R-NH) Thune (R-SD) Vitter (R-LA) Voinovich (R-OH) Warner (R-VA) Webb (D-VA) Whitehouse (D-RI) Wicker (R-MS) Seriously...some die-hard civil libertarian kick in here and tell me this is all a-OK because we trust Dick Cheney to only listen in on the bad guys. And how about a solid corporate conservative chime in to let me know that these telcos should be totally absolved of any responsibility when they turn over their phone lists without demanding to see a warrant, because it won't happen to good people, only bad ones. And then some dead-ender Bushie tell me how they'll feel if a Clinton is back in the White House with the same powers?

America is going to the DOGS. The more Bush talks about a Democracy and his mission to spread Democracy to places such as Iraq: The more we look like a country which practice dictatorial government. This is really twisted!
