Jackson, MS-Attorney General Jim Hood and the Division Directors of the Attorney General's Office revealed the agency's 2008 legislative agenda this morning before Senate Judiciary, Division B, chaired by Senator Gray Tollison.
Legislative priorities for Attorney General Hood and his staff include (in no specific order) ...
* Cracking down on foreign counterfeit products which endanger Mississippi consumers and Mississippi businesses
* Launching fight against lead contaminated toys
* Addressing social networking issues
* Criminalizing the act of online exhibition of a lewd or lascivious nature
* Strengthening domestic violence laws
* Support for fully funding Crime Lab and Medical Examiner
* State wire tap authority
* Establish an election court
* Insurance reform
* Whistleblower legislation
* Campaign Finance
"All of these issues are hugely important to Mississippians and to the work being done by our agency and that of all law enforcement in the state every single day," said Attorney General Jim Hood. "By supporting these proposals, our lawmakers will be allowing us to better protect our residents. It is important that we all recognize that issues such as corporate piracy go deep into the pocketbooks of all taxpayers and to the heart of issues as scary as terrorism. We are excited about this year's agenda and the positive changes that will come with the support of our legislators."
