I saw this challenge today on Good Morning America and had to try it. (Thank goodness I was by myself.) Anyway, the challenge is to chew and completely swallow six saltines in one minute without drinking anything to wash it down.
I shoved the first cracker into my mouth, chewed it up and swallowed it, and I thought to myself, Hey, this isn't so bad. The second cracker was a little harder to get down because I had less saliva in my mouth, but I still had hope. My troubles began at cracker number three. My mouth was completely dry, and the cracker turned into a big ball of dough that I couldn't swallow. I looked at the clock and saw that I had fifteen seconds left, so I hastily shoved the fourth cracker into my mouth, but all that did was create a bigger ball of dough. I failed miserably. Of course, as soon as I took a swig of water, I was able to swallow the remaining cracker goo in my mouth.
You can see this challenge tonight on the show "Food Detectives" on Food Network at 8 PM CDT.

Let me know how it goes, Iron. They did not show the cracker segment on the show tonight, but if you read the article I linked to, you'll see that none of the participants were able to eat six saltines. One of them even crumbled the crackers up first. Amazing, huh?

Surely as a young boy stealing crackers, cake, tea cakes and other foods from my grandmothers, aunts and parents; I ate more than 5 saltines in one minute without any water. I think I even ate more weiners than that in one minute on one occasion. I darn near choked to death as a result of that. I learned to hide food in my pockets after that for later eating. To top it off, I couldn't ever remember stealing the food upon being querried about it. Good thing I couldn't remember else I'd have been tempted to lie. It's funny how memory returns for some of us as we age and our loves ones get to old to punish.
