Gorden Going To Hall of Fame

W.C. Gorden, the winningest football coach in Jackson State history, has been named to the College Football Hall of Fame. The Tigers won eight SWAC titles during Gorden's 15 years as head coach. This year's hall class also includes former Mississippi Valley State coach Doug Porter.

Good! He certainly deserves it. Jackson State was the envy of all black college sports during his tenure. Additionally, Larry Smith, aka Mr. Mean, has been hired as Alcorn's new basketball coach. He spent 20 years or so in the NBA, was a prolific rebounder for the Golden State Warriors, and was assistant coach for the Houston Rockets when they won their 2 championships. Most of all he was on the team, I think, when they beat Mississippi State, and definitely on the team when the Tougaloo Bulldogs played them to three overtimes before losing. Those were the good old days. Hopefully, he can duplicate the ways of Dave Whitney and return Alcorn to their previous winning ways.

Congrats to Coach Gorden! He does deserve it and hopefully down the road, Rick Comegy will make it there too. Alcorn...who? Last time I looked, this is Jackson State country!
