All: I'm playing with a new look for the JFP home page -- not a radical change, but a few new navigation features that might make regularly checking in on our content a little easier. To access the page, see:
http://www.jacksonfreepress.com/index.php/beta/
Now, note that once you click away for that page you'll be back in the regular navigation...but I'm just looking to hear from y'all what you think of the new direction and whether it's working in your browsers.
AND...has everyone checked out the "flipping" version of the JFP -- click the Cover at the bottom of the site (in the footer) and you'll see the new digital version of this week's issue.

I'm using Google Chrome on my sister's laptop, and it works great. I'll try it on my PC later. I like the tabs at the top. Keeps me from thinking so hard. :P AND...has everyone checked out the "flipping" version of the JFP -- click the Cover at the bottom of the site (in the footer) and you'll see the new digital version of this week's issue. Yes. I. Love. It. I don't always get a hard copy, so it's a good way to see what it looks like.

Herman: The pages should be set to 1000 wide (for two pages) and about 600px high. Can you check again with the new issue and see if that works better?

As long as you are playing around, is there any way to incorporate the "forum" comments into the "100 latest comments"?

As long as you are playing around, is there any way to incorporate the "forum" comments into the "100 latest comments"? In a word: No. Which is frustrating to the point that we're actually looking at a different way of structuring reader posts -- less "forums-y" and more like a group blog that any member could post to. We'd lose some of the features of the forums script, but we'd gain total integration back into the rest of the site. I appreciate the question -- sometimes I totally forget that the forum comments are there and it'd be nice to see those threads of discussion mixed in with the other ones.

I do hope that you will experiment with other things then. Before the major change a few months ago, it seems like everything was in the "recent comments". Now I forget about the forum part a lot of the time- and some of the subjects being discussed there actually hold greater interest for me sometimes. Thanks for all the other stuff- I really look forward to playing around on the restaurant thing!
