High school football, Provine at Wingfield (7:30 p.m., South Jackson Field, Jackson): The JPS rivals battle for South Jackson supremacy.
Clinton at Brandon (7:30 p.m.): The Arrows call on the Bulldogs in a suburban showdown.

College football, Marshall at Southern Miss (2:30 p.m., Hattiesburg, CSS/1180 AM): The Golden Eagles try to lasso the Thundering Herd in USM's C-USA opener.
Austin at Millsaps (1 p.m., Davis Field, Jackson, 1240 AM): The Majors open their quest for a share of their third straight SCAC crown.

NFL football, New Orleans at Denver (3:05 p.m., Ch. 40/620 AM): Things don't get any easier for the Saints when they head for the mountains. The Broncos, who don't really need any help, also got some home cooking from the referees in last week's victory over San Diego.

NFL football, New York Jets at San Diego (7:30 p.m., ESPN): Can Brett Favre summon up some of his old magic against the snake-bitten Chargers?

MLB baseball, Atlanta at Philadelphia (6 p.m., CSS/620 AM): The Braves try to spoil the Phillies' chances of getting into the playoffs. Check out all the former M-Braves in the dugout.
