Happy the Caanan Mix

I was out at the Mississippi Animal Rescue League the other day and met Happy. Happy is a Canaan mix dog who was brought to Mississippi from Turkey. I had never heard of a Canaan dog so I was excited about meeting her. This dog is a beautiful dog that would make a really great companion for someone.

She weighs about 60 pounds and his housebroken and walks well on a leash. It isn't her fault that her owner brought her to the League because she decided her accommodations weren't large enough for a dog. Happy is patiently waiting someone to meet her and decide that she needs to be their forever pet. This dog is very smart and would be a very loyal dog. If you are interested in meeting her please go to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League and ask for her.

The Rescue League is also running very low on dog food. If you can donate money or food it would be greatly appreciated. The League prefers to receive Purina or Pedigree. Also volunteers are always welcome to help walk the dogs and groom them.

I am very excited that the staff of the Jackson Free Press has given me the opportunity to write for them. I am in the middle of looking for a job which is full of difficulties and this blog will be a fun way to try to give something back to the world. I am the proud owner of more than one rescue dog and I know they have given me far more than I could ever give them.

What a sweetie. Does she do well with other dogs? Do you know her age?

This is SUCH a great idea. Ann, welcome, and I hope you will feature dogs from all the rescue organizations around here including MARL, ARF (Animal Rescue Fund), and CARA. I volunteer with ARF and would be happy to help get pictures and info on dogs up for adoption there too. Happy is so cute, I wish I had room to bring her home to play with my Sally, but we have to be a one-dog household for right now. There are soooo many wonderful pets looking for forever homes!

I also went by MARL the other day just to see this dog. She's a beautiful dog, well trained, housetrained. I was fascinated by the fact that she had been bred in Turkey and traveled to the US through Germany and has been in the USA for 2 years. Unfortunately, she got passed around and ended up with someone who was so down and out that a friend took the dog to her apt but was allowed to keep her there only 2 weeks and then had to be relinquished to a shelter, in this case, one of the best, MARL. No one around here has ever heard of such an exotic dog and so she has not had a home offer and I know time is important for those dogs who have not been adopted after a while. I was told to call Linda at 601-899-5020 for more info. I hope the rest of you who would love a good dog, do the same.
