"Labor of Love," the area's largest baby shower, will take place tomorrow, Aug. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Schimmel's Restaurant (2615 N. State St.), providing an opportunity for interested young people to learn more about getting involved in the community.
Young Leaders in Philanthropy, an organization of the United Way of the Capital Area, is hosting "Labor of Love," and has invited Jackson Free Press Editor-in-Chief Donna Ladd to speak to the group about the importance of community involvement.
United Way Vice President of Resource Development Monica Daniels says YLP was created to aid and develop young professionals.
"We are trying to attract young, energetic leaders between ages 25 and 45 years old that can be mentored by current leaders in philanthropy within our community," Daniels told the JFP.
Participants are asked to bring a baby item as a donation for local women's shelters. Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available.
In addition to social events, YLP offers volunteer opportunities through the United Way, as well as "Lunch and Learn" meetings on various subjects.
